A traditional myth and entertaining story is related by the colourful " Die sieben Schwaben"- Seven Men - these little characters bring " Cheer and Good Times to a joyful and Happy Place".

The Schwaben Inn is one of the oldest and largest restaurants in Dundas and the Roos Family, who have owned and operated the 160 seat restaurant for the past 20 years, continue to offer its patrons the traditional " Die sieben Schwaben " atmosphere - right here in Dundas.

In 1975 Peter Roos' brother-in-law, Alois Link, purchased the restaurant and opened it as the Schwaben Inn - naming it after the German area where Alois was born. Alois was also the proprietor of another successful Dundas institute - Link's Delicatessan.

When Peter and his wife Edel immigrated from Germany to Canada in 1977 they became restauranteurs - a profession Peter never ever dreamed would become an important part of his life.

Before coming to Canada, Roos was an editor for the largest school text publisher in Europe and finding himself in the Restaurant Business soon became a challenge which Peter has not ever regretted. Judging by the success of the Schwaben Inn Peter took to the food industry just as he did to the printing business.

The Schwaben In attracts patrons from across the region: Toronto to Kitchener, and from as far away as Buffalo, New York. Many of the Schwaben staff have been with the Roos Family for the past 20 years and have supported the growth in the Family Business through their loyal and sincere work efforts. " We are fortunate to have wonderful staff working along side our family for many years - if you don't have a good staff, then you aren't going to be successful " Roos said.
The restaurant offers a mix of German traditional food and Canadian fare. The menu includes German dishes such as Spatzle, a specialty noodle of Swabia, and Rouladen, a tasty dish consisting of pickles, onions, mustard and bacon wrapped in beef.

Another popular dish is the Schnitzel which is prepared in many different and tasteful settings. Dumplings, mashed potatoes flavoured with spices, are another incredibly good German delight.

On the lighter side, there are Pork Tenderloin and Chicken Stirfrys as well as a special Kids menu. The Schwaben Inn keeps up the Family Spirit as a good Corporate Citizen through its continuing sponosorship of many sports teams throughout the region and support of many local charitable service clubs.

The Inn is also popular for parties and small weddings. Every year Peter and his staff host the McMaster Retiree's Annual Christmas Party in a private area of the Inn, so if you are looking for somewhere to hold your Christmas party or small wedding reception, look no further than the Schwaben Inn ! The Inn's private party room can hold up to 30 people comfortably seated.
